Understanding Song Lyrics

In Literary we have been learning about understanding song lyrics. We listened to two songs , they were by Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars. Michael Jackson did Man in the mirror and Bruno Mars did the Treasure. We discussed and brainstormed the song title meanings. We then looked at the lyrics and what they meant. Treasure by Bruno Mars is about he thing that girl is Treasure. Man in the mirror by Michael Jackson is about how to change your surf and the world.

On wednesday we have been learning characters in reading it is hero and villain. I had to work out if the words main hero or villain.This is my work.

Recount

In writing we have been making recounts. I made a sad recount you mint cire. First I made a plan then I write the recount.

Questioning

In Reading we are learning to be good readers. To be a good reader you ask questions before, during and after you read something. We are learning to ask different types of questions. They are Right there question- the answer can be found in the text. Think & search - the answer is in the text but it may not use the same language that is used in the question and you may have to look in different places to find it. Author and me - The answer is in the text. You need to use your own background knowledge and what the author has told you to come up with the answer. This week we looked at a photo. In our groups we wrote questions about the photo. In our groups we wrote questions about the photo. We decided that the people in the photo were escaping or running from something. Next we brainstormed what they could be running from. I thought they were running from a big fire. After that we made a survival kit.

For literacy we have been writing about our holidays. What I found challenging was writing it. What I enjoyed was putting it on my blog.

Going to the movie theatre to watch Hotel Transylvania 3

Who.? Mum Dad sister and my little brother.

What? Popcorn fairy and lolly.

When? I went Sunday.

Where? Hoyts Riccarton movie theatre.

Why? To have fun.

I went to the hoyts riccarton movie theatre on Sunday with my family. What I had for food was popcorn and lollies. I went to have fun with my family.

On a sunny day I went to the movie theatre to watch hotel transylvania 3.

As soon as we got there we brought our tickets and we went to our seats.

I was excited for the movie to start. We got out our movie snacks.

After a while of waiting the movie suddenly started.

When the movie was finished my favourite thing about it was the giant octopus.

When the movie was finished I hopped in my dad's car and all of us drove home.

I had a great time at the movie theatre because the movie was so funny. I tried to not laugh at the movie.

Winter poem

In literacy we have been writing about winter. We had to do a poem about it. The hard thing was planning. The easy thing was writing. We planned it together, then added our own planning, t then we wrote it and bloged it.

Chinese New Year

In literacy I have been learning about celebrated and I found out information about why how\where\who\when people celebrate the Chinese New Year.
I had to watch a videos read about it and created own dragon or lion.

I found reading about chinese new year difficult.
I enjoyed creating our own dragons or lions.

When - between january 21 february 20 new moon

Who\where - china - anyone who is chinese. All around the world.

How - light + sound.firecrackers. Traditional lion dance.

• Families- dinner - clean their house to sweep away bad luck an new year's day.
• Red envelopes - lucky money “ - family gives it to children.

Why - welcame the new year to bring good luck, good fortune,wealth prosperity + happiness

Dragon dance

1. The dragon dance is performed by a skilled team whose job is to bring the motionless body to life.
2. The correct combination and proper timing of the different parts of the dragon are very important to make a successful dance.
3. Any mistakes made by even some of the performers would spoil the whole performance.
4. To be very successful in the dance, the head of the Dragon must be able to coordinate with the body movement to match the timing of the drum.
5. For larger ceremonial and parade style dragons, the head can weigh as much as 12 katie (14.4 kg, almost 32 lb).

In reading I have been learning how to predict. I wse my prior knowledge and clues from the picture or text to predict I had to use my prior knowledge about being alone in the forest and clues from the picture to predict what would happen next.

Camping Trip

“I guess this is what the wilderness feels like.” John said to himself. Standing there in the woods, he couldn’t believe he had agreed to go on a camping trip with his cousins. He’d always been scared of new experiences. John noticed that his cousins were unpacking the camping gear while his Uncle Jim was setting up the tent. Suddenly, John felt a little bad about not helping. “Hey, Uncle Jim, what can I do to help?” he asked, trying to sound confident. “Why don’t you gather some firewood?”Uncle Jim answered. “Um, sure” John replied. “Where do they keep it?” Uncle Jim gave John a curious look. “We are in the woods John, just look around for some clean and dry wood.”

Based on the story… do you think John will enjoy the camping trip?

Evidence	What I already know - Prior Knowledge.

Prediction He will not like the camping trip because he is scared of the woods and he Felt bad because he didn't help anyone else.

• Answer no he doesn’t but the boy gets eaten by a monster in the water.

• What will happen next? Continue the story.
• The crocodile jumps out of the water and eats him
• If you could jump into the picture, what would you do? Would you help the boy? How? I will help the boy by cutting the line and tell him to run as fast as you can.

Best Part Of Me

This week in writing we have been learning to use adjectives [wow words]. We read the story "The best part of me by Wendy Ewald. next we brainstormed ideas about our best body part. This is my writing. What is your best body part and why?

Best part of me

The best part of me is my hands.I use my hands to hold tools to build my go-kart and to but the lawn mower engine on the go-kart.I use my hands to play scrap mechanic.I use my hands to push my Dad trailer when it need to move. I use my hands to build a huge lego plane.

I have been doing blindfold challenge First I put on blindfold then I want to a table Then someone put a bowl in front of me then I put my hand inside it and I picked the bowl up and I had a smell of it then I tasted it.

No one should be flashing in Farewell Spit because Hector's dolphins are getting stuck inside nets and dying it is bad for Hector dolphins. Fisherman should not fish in Farewell Spit and fish in the sea. Hector's dolphins is a live for 20 year Hector's dolphins have round fin weigh between 40 and 60 kg.

Bliss Balls Poem

I got bliss balls.

In the bliss balls I smelled chocolate.

I don´t like bliss balls because I don´t like raisins.

I taste chocolate in the bliss balls.

I can see my dirty hands for mixing bliss balls

I can hear the fruit cuter cut the fruit up and the chocolate too.

The bliss balls feel like icky gunge.

Wind is air moving fast.

We get lots of wind on Islands from the sea. Wind comes from the west and the south. Wind is big but you can’t see it. Wind is air.

I think about wind, wind feels soft on my skin.
